Bombay Blood Group
Doctors recently performed a cross-blood transplant on a patient with the rare Bombay blood group.
About Bombay Blood Group (HH Blood Group):
- Rare Blood Group: The Bombay blood group is an extremely rare blood type.
- Discovery: It was first identified in Mumbai in 1952 by Y.M. Bhende.
- Characteristics: Individuals with this blood group have serum antibodies against A, B, and H antigens, which can cause agglutination in all ABO blood groups.
- Clinical Feature: People with the Bombay blood group cannot receive blood transfusions from any ABO group, including type O, which contains the H antigen.
- Note: They can only receive blood from another donor with the Bombay blood group.
