General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR)

Income tax authorities may issue reassessment notices under the General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR) as part of the proposed Income Tax Bill, 2025.

About GAAR
GAAR is an anti-tax avoidance law designed to prevent tax evasion and close tax loopholes. It serves as a tool to curb aggressive tax planning, particularly in cases where transactions or business arrangements are made with the sole intent of avoiding taxes.
GAAR has been in effect since April 1, 2017, under the Income Tax Act, 1961. It was reviewed by an expert committee chaired by Parthasarathy Shome.

About AWBI
The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) was established in 1962 under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCAA) of 1960. It serves as a statutory advisory body on animal welfare laws and promotes the well-being of animals.
Founded under the leadership of the renowned humanitarian, Rukmini Devi Arundale, AWBI consists of 28 members, including 6 Members of Parliament (2 from the Rajya Sabha and 4 from the Lok Sabha).
