NASA is preparing to launch the SPHEREx Space Telescope aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

About SPHEREx Space Telescope (Observatory)

• Full Form: Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer
• Data Collection: It will gather information from 450 million galaxies and 100 million stars in the Milky Way.
• Objective: To conduct a survey of the sky in optical and near-infrared light.
• Mission Duration: 2 years
• Goals:
  • Investigate the origin of the universe while mapping the distribution of galaxies.
  • Create a 3-D map of the cosmos using 102 distinct colors (individual light wavelengths).
  • Gain insights into cosmic inflation, the rapid and exponential expansion of the universe shortly after the Big Bang.

About Algal Bloom

• Definition: An algal bloom refers to the excessive growth of microscopic algae or algae-like bacteria in fresh, salt, or brackish waters. These blooms can appear in various colors, including blue-green, yellow, brown, pink, and red.
• Types:
• Cyanobacteria (Blue-Green Algae): The most common harmful algal bloom, typically seen in freshwater lakes, ponds, and rivers.
• Golden Algae (Prymnesium parvum): Mainly found in oceans but increasingly affecting freshwater bodies. Unlike cyanobacteria, golden algae is not known to harm humans.
