Researchers have recently identified a new type of brain cell called Ovoid cells.

About Ovoid Cells
These are a specific type of neuron that plays a crucial role in recognition memory — the process through which the brain distinguishes between new and familiar objects and forms long-term memories.
Ovoid cells, named for their distinct egg-like shape, are found in the hippocampus of humans, mice, and other animals. They activate whenever we encounter something new, initiating a process that helps store these objects in our memory.
This discovery could be significant in developing treatments for brain conditions related to object recognition, such as Alzheimer's disease, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Epilepsy.
