Betwa River

 FireSat

The first satellite of the FireSat project has successfully been placed into Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

About FireSat:

• Developed by Google Research, Earth Fire Alliance, the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation, and Muon Space.
• The project will feature a LEO constellation of 50 satellites.
• FireSat will provide high-resolution imagery to detect wildfires as small as a classroom and offer updates every 20 minutes using AI, including information on fire intensity.

Betwa River

The Betwa River is struggling to maintain its natural flow due to human-driven developments.

About Betwa River:

• Also known as Vetravati in Sanskrit.
• Geographical Features: A right-bank tributary of the Yamuna River. It originates in Jhirri Village (District Sehore) near Bhopal and joins the Yamuna near Hamirpur, flowing through Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
• Cultural & Historical Significance: The capital of the ancient Chedi Kingdom, Suktamati, was located along its banks. The river is also mentioned in the Mahabharata.
• Other Information: The Betwa River Board (BRB) was established under the Betwa River Board Act, 1976. The Ken-Betwa River Link Project was approved in 2021.

Peru (Capital: Lima)

Peru has declared a state of emergency and deployed the army to Lima, following a rise in violence.

Political Features:

• Located on the western coast of South America, linking the Pacific Ocean with the Andes and the Amazon Basin.
• Land Boundaries: Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Brazil to the east, and Bolivia and Chile to the south.

Geographical Features:

• Drainage: The Amazon River and Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake (shared with Bolivia).
• Forest: About 60% of Peru is covered by the Amazon rainforest.
• Other Key Features: The Atacama Desert (extending into the southern part of Peru from Chile), the Nazca Lines (mysterious geoglyphs in the desert), and the Humboldt Current (a cold ocean current).
• Natural Resources: Peru holds some of the world’s largest silver reserves.
