Election Commission Clarifies EPIC Number Duplication Does Not Indicate Duplicate Voters
The Election Commission has clarified that the presence of duplicate Electors Photo Identification Card (EPIC) numbers across different states does not imply the existence of duplicate or fake voters. This clarification came in response to concerns regarding identical EPIC numbers being found in two different states, which was due to the manual, decentralized process used prior to migrating all State/UT electoral roll databases to the ERONET platform.
About EPIC Number
The EPIC number is a 10-digit voter ID card number issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to electors registered in the electoral roll.
About ERONET (Electoral Roll Management) Platform
ERONET is a web-based platform developed to help election officials manage all processes related to voter registration, migration, and deletion of names from the electoral roll.
- Features:
- A unified database for all states/UTs
- A reporting system to monitor the performance of electoral officials
New Study Reveals Martian Red Colour Linked to Ferrihydrite, Not Hematite
A recent study has revealed that the red color of Mars is more likely caused by ferrihydrite rather than the previously believed hematite present in the planet’s dust. Unlike hematite, ferrihydrite forms rapidly in the presence of cool water, suggesting that Mars had a wetter past.
About Ferrihydrite
Ferrihydrite is a common hydrous ferric oxyhydroxide mineral found on Earth’s surface.
- It is a precursor to other minerals, such as hematite and goethite.
- It forms in soils that undergo rapid weathering, particularly in soils containing soluble silicate or organic anions that inhibit the formation of more crystalline iron oxides.
Properties:
- Nano-particulate size and poor crystallinity
- It is used in the sequestration of heavy element contaminants.
