The UN Environment Programme is leading an initiative aimed at conserving biodiversity, promoting sustainable land management, and improving water security in the Lake Tanganyika Basin.

• Funded by: Global Environment Facility
• Objective: To foster transboundary cooperation among the four countries bordering Lake Tanganyika.

Lake Tanganyika Basin:

• Shared by four countries: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and Zambia.
• It is one of Africa's Great Lakes and the world’s second-largest freshwater lake by volume.
• Internationally recognized as a global biodiversity hotspot.

Swavalambini – Women Entrepreneurship Programme

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in collaboration with NITI Aayog, has launched Swavalambini, a Women Entrepreneurship Programme.

About Swavalambini – Women Entrepreneurship Programme

• Purpose: The program promotes gender-inclusive entrepreneurship.
• Objective: To empower female students in higher education institutions by providing them with entrepreneurial skills, resources, and mentorship.
• Structure: Includes an Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme, Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme, mentorship, and faculty training.
• Implementation: The National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development is responsible for implementation.
• Impact: The program aims for 10% of trained participants to establish their own enterprises, contributing to women-led economic growth in India.
