New Zealand Joins Regional Initiatives

 The Prime Minister of New Zealand has made an official visit to India, during which both countries reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their growing bilateral relationship. They agreed to collaborate across various sectors, including trade and defense.

Key outcomes include:

  • Launch of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Negotiations: Both nations agreed to negotiate a mutually beneficial trade deal, with an emphasis on the swift implementation of cooperation in the digital payments sector.

  • Launch of Negotiations on Mobility Arrangements for Professionals & Skilled Workers: This initiative aims to support collaboration in innovation, emerging technologies, and various other sectors.

  • New Zealand Joins Regional Initiatives: New Zealand has also joined the Indo-Pacific Oceans' Initiative (IPOI) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).

    • The IPOI, launched by India at the 14th East Asia Summit (EAS) in 2019, promotes regional cooperation focused on the safety, security, and stability of the maritime domain.
    • The CDRI, launched by India at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in 2019, aims to enhance the resilience of both new and existing infrastructure systems against climate and disaster risks.

Additionally, bilateral documents were signed covering areas such as defense, the Authorized Economic Operator-Mutual Recognition Agreement (AEO-MRA), and cooperation in forestry, education, sports, horticulture, and more.
