A privilege motion has been raised against the External Affairs Minister for allegedly providing “misleading and incomplete” information.

About Privilege Motion

A privilege motion is introduced when a member believes that parliamentary privileges have been violated.

Parliamentary privileges refer to certain rights and immunities granted to:

  • Individual Members of Parliament (MPs)
  • The Parliament as a collective body, enabling them to perform their duties effectively.

Conditions for a Privilege Motion:

  • The motion must concern a specific, recent incident.
  • The issue must require intervention from the Council.

The Speaker or Chairman can either decide on the motion themselves or refer it to the Privileges Committee of Parliament.
