Singapore President Visits India to Mark 60 Years of Bilateral Relations
The Presidents of India and Singapore jointly unveiled a logo to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
India-Singapore Relations
Diplomatic Ties: India was one of the first nations to recognize Singapore's independence and establish diplomatic relations in 1965.
Agreements & Partnerships: A Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement was signed in 2005. In 2015, the relationship was upgraded to a Strategic Partnership, which further evolved into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024.
Trade: Singapore is India’s 6th largest trading partner (2023-24), accounting for 3.2% of India’s total trade. It is also India’s largest trade partner within ASEAN, with India being a net importer.
Multilateral Cooperation: Both countries are members of several forums, including the East Asia Summit, the Commonwealth, the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS).
Defence Cooperation: India and Singapore conduct joint military exercises, such as Exercise Agni Warrior (Army) and SIMBEX (Navy).
Indian Diaspora: People of Indian origin make up 9% of Singapore’s population. Tamil is one of the four official languages in Singapore.
