Ocean Coordination Mechanism (OCM)
The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (UNESCO-IOC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Ocean Coordination Mechanism for the Wider Caribbean Region.

About OCM:

• Objective: To secure a sustainable future for the marine ecosystems of the Wider Caribbean region.
• Funding: The project will receive funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
• Functions:
  • Promotes regional cooperation among signatories for the sustainable use of marine resources.
  • Supports the sustainable development of the Blue Economy and ensures the effective use of limited resources for marine and coastal development.
• Structure: The mechanism includes an Executive group from the International Organization and a Steering Group of countries.

Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Scheme
The Finance Minister introduced the Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Scheme in the Union Budget for 2025-26.

About Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Scheme:

• Objective: To provide Indian language books in digital format for schools and higher education, helping students better understand their subjects.
• Alignment with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020: The scheme aligns with the NEP, offering digital textbooks and learning materials to students in schools and universities.
• Complementary to ASMITA Initiative: It complements the ASMITA (Augmenting Study Materials in Indian Languages through Translation and Academic Writing) initiative launched by the Ministry of Education and UGC in 2024. ASMITA aims to develop 22,000 books in 22 Indian languages over the next five years.
