Credit Information Companies (CIC)

Recently, the RBI imposed a fine of Rs 39 lakh on Citibank for failing to provide credit information to Credit Information Companies (CICs).

About CIC

• Function: CICs collect public data, credit transactions, and payment histories of individuals and companies, particularly related to loans and credit cards.
• Significance: They generate credit scores, which help lenders and credit grantors decide whether to approve or deny an applicant's loan request.
• Licensing and Regulation: CICs are licensed by the RBI and regulated under the Credit Information Companies (Regulation) Act, 2005.

Bathouism
The Government of the Bodoland Territorial Region in Assam has officially recognized Bathouism in the religion column.

About Bathouism

• Bathouism is a folk religion of the Bodo community centered around the worship of Bathoubwrai or Sibwrai, the supreme god of the Bodos, and is also referred to as Bathou religion.
• In the Bodo language, "Ba" means five, and "thou" represents deep philosophical thought. These five elements are:
  • Bar (Air)
  • San (Sun)
  • Ha (Earth)
  • Or (Fire)
  • Okhrang (Sky)

Bodo Tribe

• The Bodos are the largest indigenous plains tribe in Assam.
• Their homeland lies on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, near the foothills of Bhutan.
• The Bodos belong to the Assam-Burma group of Tibeto-Burman language speakers.
