Exercise Ekuverin
The 13th edition of the joint military exercise Ekuverin between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force has begun in the Maldives.
About Exercise Ekuverin:
- Nature: A bilateral annual exercise held alternately in India and the Maldives.
- Meaning: "Ekuverin" translates to "Friends" in Dhivehi, the language spoken in the Maldives.
- Objective: To enhance interoperability in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, and conduct joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.
Thiruparankundram Hill
The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to maintain communal harmony at Thiruparankundram Hill.
About Thiruparankundram Hill:
- Location: Situated in Madurai district.
- Historical Significance: Home to the rock-cut Thiruparankundram Temple, which dates back to the 8th century during the reign of the Pandyas.
- Religious Importance: This temple is one of the six prominent temples dedicated to Lord Muruga, the chief deity of the ancient Tamil people, and son of the warrior goddess Korravai.
- Additional Sites: The hill also houses a Muslim shrine dedicated to Sekunder (Sikandar Shah, the last Sultan of the Madurai Sultanate), as well as caves associated with Jainism.
