Key Agreements Signed
Nuclear Energy Cooperation: Both nations agreed to collaborate on developing Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs). SMRs are compact nuclear reactors designed to be built in factories and transported to various sites, while AMRs represent next-generation reactors with enhanced efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
Launch of India-France Indo-Pacific Triangular Development Cooperation: This initiative aims to support climate- and SDG-focused projects in third countries within the Indo-Pacific region.

Key Highlights of India’s Visit to France
Multilateral Cooperation: France reiterated its support for India’s bid for permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council.
Defence Cooperation: Significant progress was made in the construction and indigenization of Scorpene submarines, along with the launch of the FRIND-X defence startup platform. France also included India as an observer in the Eurodrone MALE program.
Military Exercises: Ongoing cooperation through joint military exercises such as Varuna and La Perouse.
Technology Collaboration: Both countries acknowledged the progress of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). India, as one of seven ITER members, contributes to assembling the world’s largest Tokamak, which aims to generate 500 MW of fusion power.
India-France Year of Innovation (2026): This initiative will promote scientific and technological collaboration between the two nations.
Trade Relations: India and France recorded a landmark bilateral trade of over USD 15 billion in 2024.
