Adolescent Girls Club

The first ‘Adolescent Girls Club’ under Mission Shakti was launched in Nagaland. These clubs are established in both government and private schools for girls aged 10-19 years.

About Mission Shakti

  • Ministry: Ministry of Women and Child Development.
  • Sub-schemes:
    • Sambal: Focused on the safety and security of women, including initiatives like One Stop Centres (OSC), Women Helplines (WHL), Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), and Nari Adalat.
    • Samarthya: Aimed at women’s empowerment, covering programs such as Ujjwala, Swadhar Greh, Working Women Hostels, the National Creche Scheme for children of working mothers, and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).

Soliga Tribe
The Prime Minister praised the Soliga tribe for their contributions to increasing the tiger population in the Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserve.

About the Soliga Tribe
The Soliga are a nomadic community residing in the Biligiriranga Hills region of southern Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu. In 2011, they became the first tribal group living within a tiger reserve to receive legal rights to the forest.

  • They rely on forest resources like honey, berries, and timber for their livelihood and engage in subsistence agriculture.
  • The Soliga speak Soliga, a Dravidian language closely related to Kannada.
  • They regard tigers as sacred beings and call the tiger "Dodda Nayi" (Big Dog).
