ICD-11 Update by WHO (2025)

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced an update to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) for 2025.
About ICD-11
ICD-11 is a globally standardized system for classifying diseases and health conditions, now including traditional medicine.
Origin: Initially introduced in 1893, it is now in its 11th revision (ICD-11).
Significance: It plays a vital role in global health monitoring, policy development, and in advancing health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
2025 Update: The update improves interoperability, accuracy, and multilingual capabilities, integrates with Orphanet and MedDRA, and adds a Traditional Medicine Module that covers Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani.

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) recently celebrated its 22nd Foundation Day.

About NCST
Origin: Established as a Constitutional body under Article 338A by the Constitution (89th Amendment) Act, 2003.
This amendment replaced the previous National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes with two separate commissions: the NCSC and the NCST.
Members: The Commission consists of a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson, and three members, all appointed by the President.
Mandate: Its primary role is to investigate, monitor, and inquire into matters concerning the safeguards for Scheduled Tribes (STs) under the Constitution and to protect their interests.
