India has been elected to the Vice Presidency of IALA in Singapore, reinforcing its dedication to maritime safety, navigation, and international cooperation.
About IALA
Headquarters: Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France
Establishment: Founded in 1957 as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
Transition to IGO: In 2024, IALA transitioned from an NGO to an Intergovernmental Organization (IGO).
Objective: IALA encourages its members to collaborate in standardizing Marine Aids to Navigation globally, ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable movement of vessels.
Member Types: IALA has three categories of membership: National Member, Associate Member, and Industrial Member.
Article 142 of the Indian Constitution
The Supreme Court (SC) recently invoked its special powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to grant a divorce.
About Article 142
Article 142 empowers the Supreme Court to pass any decree or order necessary for delivering complete justice in any pending case or matter, enforceable throughout India.
It also grants the SC the authority to issue orders for securing the attendance of individuals, the discovery or production of documents, or the investigation or punishment of contempt.
