About NCISM
Overview: NCISM is a statutory body established under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020.
Composition: The body consists of 29 members, all appointed by the central government.
Ministry: It operates under the Ministry of Ayush.
NCISM's Objectives:
- Improve: Enhance Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa (AUS&SR) medical education and ensure access to a qualified workforce nationwide.
- Promote: Support research-driven practices in AUS&SR and ensure transparent institutional assessments.
- Regulate: Establish standards for AUS&SR through registration, ethical guidelines, and grievance redressal mechanisms.
India Assumes Chairmanship of the Bay of Bengal Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO)
About BOBP-IGO
Genesis: Established in 2003
Purpose: BOBP-IGO is an inter-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting cooperation and offering technical advisory services for sustainable coastal fisheries in the Bay of Bengal region.
Members: Bangladesh, India, Maldives, and Sri Lanka.
Cooperating Non-Contracting Parties: Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand.Bay of Bengal Large Marine Ecosystem Project II:
Purpose: This project aims to tackle issues such as overexploitation of marine living resources, degradation and loss of critical habitats, and water pollution.
Tenure: The project will run for five years (2023-2028) with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
