New MSME Classification Criteria Announced in Union Budget 2025-26

The Union Budget for 2025-26 introduces new classification criteria for MSMEs, raising the investment and turnover limits by 2.5 and 2 times, respectively. This revision is designed to help MSMEs achieve greater operational efficiency, technological advancements, and improved access to capital.

Revised MSME Classification Criteria:

Additional Initiatives for MSMEs:

  • The credit guarantee cover for micro and small enterprises has been increased from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore.
  • Introduction of 10 lakh customized credit cards with a Rs 5 lakh limit for micro enterprises registered on the Udyam portal.
  • The Export Promotion Mission will assist MSMEs in accessing export credit and overcoming non-tariff challenges in international markets.
  • A new Rs 10,000 crore "Fund of Funds" will be established to support startups.
