Einstein Ring
The European Space Agency's Euclid space telescope has recently discovered an Einstein Ring, named NGC 6505.
About Einstein Ring
- An Einstein Ring is a ring of light, first observed in 1987, surrounding a massive object such as dark matter, a galaxy, or a galaxy cluster.
- It is a prime example of strong gravitational lensing, a phenomenon where a massive celestial body distorts and magnifies the light from distant galaxies along the same line of sight.
- The gravitational effects of the Einstein Ring can assist in studying the universe's expansion, as well as detecting the presence of dark matter and dark energy.
