The announcement of the National Manufacturing Mission aligns with India’s goal to increase the manufacturing sector's share in its GDP from the current 17% to 25% by 2025.
About the National Manufacturing Mission
- Aim: To support small, medium, and large industries under the "Make in India" initiative.
- Make in India: Launched in 2014, the initiative aims to establish India as a global hub for design and manufacturing.
- Mandate: The mission will focus on five key areas: improving ease and reducing the cost of doing business, upskilling for in-demand jobs, supporting MSMEs, ensuring access to technology, and enhancing product quality.
- Objectives: To provide policy support, develop execution roadmaps, and establish governance frameworks for central ministries and state governments.
Clean Tech Manufacturing:
- The mission will also promote clean tech manufacturing as part of India’s commitment to sustainable development.
- Aim: To enhance domestic value addition and build an ecosystem for solar PV cells, EV batteries, motors and controllers, electrolyzers, wind turbines, very high-voltage transmission equipment, and grid-scale batteries.
- Significance: This initiative aims to challenge China’s dominance in the clean tech sector and integrate India’s economy with global supply chains.
