Amazon Launches Quantum Computing Chip "Ocelot"

Amazon has introduced a quantum computing chip named Ocelot.

About Ocelot:

• Ocelot is a prototype that currently holds only a small fraction of the computing power required for creating a fully functional quantum machine.
• Key Features:
  • It consists of two integrated silicon microchips.
  • Its high-quality oscillators are made from a thin layer of superconducting material called Tantalum.
  • It employs cat qubits, inspired by the famous Schrödinger's cat thought experiment. In this thought experiment, a cat inside a sealed box is both alive and dead simultaneously (superposition) until it is observed.

Key Benefit: Ocelot can reduce the costs of implementing quantum error correction by up to 90% compared to current methods.
