 Digital Footprint-Based Lending for MSMEs

The Ministry of Finance has introduced a new credit assessment model that utilizes the digital footprints of MSMEs to streamline credit appraisal and disbursement.

About the New Credit Assessment Model
This model will use digitally collected and verifiable data from the ecosystem to create automated processes for MSME loan appraisal.
The goal is to improve financial inclusion, reduce dependency on traditional credit scores, and provide MSMEs with easier access to formal credit.
As announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, public sector banks (PSBs) will develop their internal capabilities for MSME credit assessments, moving away from reliance on external evaluations.
