Petrification: First Discovery of Petrified Wood Fossil in Jharkhand
A groundbreaking discovery of a petrified wood fossil has been made in the Rajmahal Hills of Pakur, Jharkhand.
About Petrification (or Petrifaction): Petrification is the process of permineralization, where organic matter is completely replaced by minerals, turning the fossil into stone. In permineralization, the pores of plant materials, bones, and shells are filled with minerals from the surrounding ground, lakes, or oceans, preserving every detail of the original tissue. This type of fossilization can occur in both hard and soft tissues.
