Cali Fund Launched at COP16 for Biodiversity Finance

The Cali Fund was introduced at the COP16 of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

About Cali Fund:

• Aim: To increase biodiversity financing for the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits from the use of Digital Sequence Information on Genetic Resources (DSI).
• What is DSI? DSI refers to data derived from DNA or RNA that can be stored digitally.
• Hosted by: The fund is managed by the Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office (MPTFO) in partnership with UNDP, UNEP, and the CBD Secretariat.
• Funding: Contributions will come from private sector companies that commercially use DSI.
• Purpose:
  • To support the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
  • To assist in the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) in developing countries.
  • 50% of the resources will be allocated for the needs identified by indigenous peoples and local communities, including women and youth.

Aadhaar Good Governance Portal Launched by MeitY

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the Aadhaar Good Governance Portal.

About the Aadhaar Good Governance Portal:

• Objective: To streamline the approval process for Aadhaar authentication requests, aligning with efforts to make Aadhaar more accessible and user-friendly.
• Features:
  • The portal will help integrate Face Authentication into customer-facing apps of private entities, enabling authentication anytime, anywhere.
  • This platform is operational following the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025.
  • The portal allows both government and non-government organizations to access Aadhaar authentication services.
