About Hantavirus

Hantaviruses are a family of viruses carried by certain rodents, including deer mice, white-footed mice, rice rats, and cotton rats.

• Impact: Hantavirus can cause serious and potentially fatal illnesses, such as Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (a severe respiratory illness) and Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (a condition marked by internal bleeding and kidney failure).
• People at Risk: Those who live or work in areas with high rodent populations, such as farmers and construction workers, are more susceptible.
• Treatment: There is no specific antiviral treatment or cure for Hantavirus.
