 Lithuania Withdraws from the Convention on Cluster Munitions

Lithuania has withdrawn from the Convention on Cluster Munitions, citing security concerns due to the proximity of neighboring Russia. Cluster munitions are designed to release numerous smaller explosive submunitions, or "bomblets," over a wide area when deployed.

About the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM)

The CCM is an international treaty that bans the use, stockpiling, production, and transfer of cluster munitions. It was born out of the Oslo Declaration on Cluster Munitions (2007), adopted in 2008, and entered into force in 2010.

• Legal Status: The CCM is a legally binding international agreement under international humanitarian law.
• India’s Status: India is not a signatory to the CCM, and countries like Russia, China, and the United States are also not parties to the treaty.
