The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has declared a Jammu and Kashmir-based organization an unlawful association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, imposing a five-year ban on the group.

About the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967
Origin: The Act was introduced as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Ordinance in 1966, in response to movements like the Naxalbari uprising that sought secession.
Objective: The Act is designed to effectively prevent unlawful activities by individuals and groups, particularly terrorist activities.

2019 Amendment Key Provisions:

• The Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is authorized to approve the seizure of properties linked to terrorism, which speeds up investigations.
• The Central Government now has the power to designate individual terrorists.

Parvatmala Pariyojana
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib ropeway projects in Uttarakhand under the National Ropeways Development Programme – Parvatmala Pariyojana.

About Parvatmala Pariyojana
Launched: In the Union Budget of 2022-23.
Objective: The scheme aims to develop over 250 ropeway projects across India within five years, through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Ministry: The initiative will be implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) through the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML).

Benefits of Ropeways:

• Ropeways operate with multiple cars powered by a single power plant and drive mechanism, significantly reducing construction and maintenance costs.
• They are ideal for traversing steep slopes and handling large differences in elevation.
