POSHAN Abhiyan
POSHAN (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) Abhiyan, launched in 2018, recently marked its 7th year of implementation.
About POSHAN Abhiyan
- Ministry: Union Ministry of Women and Child Development
- Nature: Centrally Sponsored Scheme
- Objective: To improve the nutritional status of adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children aged 0-6 years.
- Mission POSHAN 2.0: Launched in 2021, this initiative merged various programs with similar goals, such as the Supplementary Nutrition Programme and POSHAN Abhiyaan, under one unified scheme.
Funding Pattern:
- For States & UTs with a legislature: 60:40 between the Union and State/UT Governments.
- For Northeastern (NER) & Himalayan States: 90:10 between the Union and State Governments.
- For UTs without a legislature: 100% funded by the Union Government.
Govind Ballabh Pant (1887 - 1961)
The eminent freedom fighter and first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh was honored on his death anniversary (March 7).
About Govind Ballabh Pant
- Born: In Khoont village, near Almora, Uttarakhand.
- Political Journey: Entered politics in 1921 and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh.
Key Contributions:
- Represented revolutionaries like Ramprasad Bismill and Ashfaqulla Khan in the Kakori case.
- Participated in the Salt March, Quit India Movement, and was arrested in 1930 for planning the Civil Disobedience Movement.
- As Chief Minister of UP: Abolished the zamindari system, passed the Hindu Code Bill, granting Hindu women rights to divorce and inheritance.
- As Home Minister: Oversaw the reorganization of states along linguistic lines and was instrumental in making Hindi the official language of the central government and several states.
Recognition:
- Bharat Ratna: Awarded in 1957.
