 Twelfth Regional 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and Circular Economy Forum in Asia & the Pacific Begins in Jaipur

Launched in 2009, the Forum aims to advance sustainable waste management, resource efficiency, and the principles of the circular economy across the region. In 2013, the Forum adopted the Hanoi 3R Declaration (2013-2023), which set forth 33 voluntary goals to transition towards a more resource-efficient and circular economy.

Key Highlights of the Forum:

• Jaipur 3R and Circular Economy Declaration (2025-2034): The declaration aims to achieve a resource-efficient, clean, resilient, and low-carbon society with a sound material cycle.

• Cities Coalition for Circularity (C-3): A multi-national alliance launched to foster city-to-city collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and partnerships with the private sector. A working group of member nations has been proposed to finalize the coalition’s structure and operational framework.

• MoU Signing for CITIIS 2.0: The City Investments to Innovate, Integrate, and Sustain (CITIIS) 2.0 initiative, part of India’s Smart Cities Mission, will provide financial and technical assistance to promote circular economy practices through integrated waste management projects at the city level.

Circular Economy:

A circular economy model focuses on reusing, sharing, leasing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling materials and products as long as possible. This is in contrast to the traditional linear economic model, which follows a take-make-consume-throw-away pattern.
