About the Great Lakes:

• Names: The five lakes are Superior (largest and deepest), Michigan, Huron (longest shoreline), Erie (shallowest), and Ontario (smallest).
• Significance: Together, they form the largest freshwater system on Earth, containing one-fifth of the world's surface freshwater.
• Location: Lake Michigan is entirely within the United States, while the other four lakes serve as a natural border between Canada and the United States.
• Flow: Water flows from Lake Superior, through Lake Huron, Michigan, Erie, and Ontario, eventually reaching the Atlantic Ocean via the Saint Lawrence River.
