False Killer Whales
Recently, around 90 False Killer Whales were reported to have survived a mass stranding incident on a remote beach in Tasmania.
About False Killer Whales:
- Habitat: Found globally in tropical and subtropical oceans, typically in deep offshore waters.
- Appearance: They are dark gray, often appearing black except for a small part of their ventral (underside) surface. They are large and slender, with males being slightly larger than females.
- Behavior: Sociable and form strong social bonds, often found in small subgroups of one to a few individuals.
- Threats: Environmental contamination, hunting, competition for prey, and other factors.
Jhumoir Dance
The Prime Minister of India is set to attend the Jhumoir Binandini (Mega Jhumoir) 2025 in Guwahati, Assam, which will commemorate 200 years of Assam’s tea industry.
About Jhumoir (Jhumur) Dance:
- A folk dance primarily performed by Assam's Tea Tribe and Adivasi communities during the harvest season, symbolizing inclusivity, unity, and cultural pride.
- Women are the main dancers and singers, while men play traditional instruments such as madal, dhol, dhak (drums), cymbals, flutes, and shehnai.
- The attire worn varies across communities, with red and white sarees being especially popular among women.
