India and France co-chaired the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit in France. The summit concluded with the adoption of the Statement on Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet, which aligns with the Paris Pact for People and the Planet. The statement emphasizes promoting AI accessibility to bridge digital divides, ensuring AI is open, inclusive, transparent, and trustworthy, creating conditions for AI innovation, and encouraging its deployment.
Key Outcomes of the AI Action Summit:
Coalition for Environmentally Sustainable AI: This initiative aims to accelerate global efforts to steer AI toward a more environmentally sustainable future. It was launched by France in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). India is a founding member.
Current AI: This is a global partnership focused on promoting AI for public good, particularly in areas like data, openness, and accountability. The initiative seeks to raise $2.5 billion over the next five years, with India as a partner country.
Paris Charter for AI of General Interest: The summit endorsed principles promoting AI openness to foster scientific progress and innovation, ensuring accountability in every stage of AI design, and encouraging participation and transparency in AI for public benefit. India has adopted this charter.
Paris Declaration on Maintaining Human Control in AI-Enabled Weapon Systems: India did not endorse this declaration.
