BIS has taken action against e-commerce platforms that are selling unsafe, non-certified products.
About BIS
Headquartered in New Delhi, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national standard body of India, established under the BIS Act of 2016.
Purpose
BIS works towards the harmonious development of activities related to standardization, marking, and quality certification of goods.
Benefits
BIS ensures the availability of safe and reliable quality goods, reduces health risks for consumers, and promotes substitutes for imports while encouraging exports.
Bureau Members
BIS is comprised of 25 members, representing both central and state governments.
Microprocessors
ISRO, in collaboration with the Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL) in Chandigarh, has developed two 32-bit microprocessors, VIKRAM3201 and KALPANA3201, specifically designed for space applications.
VIKRAM3201 is notable as the first fully "Make-in-India" 32-bit microprocessor, engineered to withstand the harsh environmental conditions of launch vehicles.
About Microprocessors
A microprocessor is a multipurpose, programmable, clock-driven, register-based electronic device. It is composed of millions of tiny transistors, resistors, and diodes mounted on semiconductor material (typically integrated circuit (IC) chips), which form essential components of a Central Processing Unit (CPU).
Components
- Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)
- Control Unit
- Register Array
Function
Microprocessors perform the function of reading binary instructions from memory, accepting binary data as input, processing the data, and providing the results as output.
Examples
Some well-known examples of microprocessors include the Intel 4004, 8085, and Pentium.
