Role of Judiciary in Empowering Women

• Preventing Sexual Harassment: In Vishaka Sawhney v. State of Rajasthan (1998), the Supreme Court established comprehensive guidelines to prevent sexual harassment of women in the workplace.

• Upholding Women's Rights: In Shayara Bano v. Union of India (2017), the Supreme Court declared Triple Talaq unconstitutional, stating that it violated women’s fundamental rights.

• Gender Equality: In Danamma @ Suman Surpur v. Amar (2018), the Supreme Court affirmed that daughters have equal rights to ancestral property, just like sons.

• Reforming Criminal Laws: In Joseph Shine v. Union of India (2018), the Supreme Court struck down Section 497 of the IPC, which criminalized adultery and treated women as the property of their husbands.

• Wage Equality: In Randhir Singh v. Union of India (1982), the Supreme Court recognized "equal pay for equal work" as a constitutional mandate under Article 39(d).
